Richard Shepherd (baritone sax) is a regular feature among UK big bands, having performed in the groups of Sir John Dankworth, Tim Garland, Callum Au, Winston Rollins and many more. Having learned his craft from mentors including Alan Barnes, Dave Newton and Andy Panayi, and a NYJO veteran, he has earned a reputation as a formidable bebop/hard bop specialist, fronting his own six-piece band, the Boptet (with Sam Mayne), and a ‘chamber jazz’ nonet project, which debuted with a sell-out appearance at London’s Ronnie Scott’s club.
